Experience much lower call abandonment rates! AT&T found that 80% of callers with silence on hold hang up within one minute, and 90% hang up within 40 seconds. Callers listening to information while on hold will remain on the line for up to three minutes longer

A recent CNN survey estimated that the average American spends approximately 60 hours per year waiting to speak to a live person. Once a call is placed on hold, an average of 43 seconds passes before that call is fielded. This is an excellent time to promote extra services, features and other information that differentiates one organization from its competitors.

An AT&T study says that 7 out of 10 business callers are placed on-hold. 85% of on-hold callers will wait if there is a message on-hold. But, if there is no message (silence) 88% will hang up. And among those who do hang up 34% will not call back. Almost 90% of business callers prefer on-hold messages to other options. Up to 25% of callers made a purchase after hearing an offer while on-hold.

Customers left on-hold without any background music felt that a 30-second on-hold call actually lasted 90 seconds. Furthermore, customers thought a 30-second on-hold call that used music-on-hold lasted only 15 seconds.
